EAT MEAT
Summer is here and MacDario’s has opened!
Dario Cecchini is now offering a 10 euro meal
on the back terrace in Panzano in Chianti.
A huge plate with a huge burger, served with potatoes, tomatoes and sweet red onions.
Served with water, you can bring your own wine with no corkage,
or get a glass of the house wine for 2 euro.
If you want to eat on the back patio, but prefer a tasting menu from the shop,
that is 20 euro
and includes, sushi del chianti, tonno del chianti, porchetta, a raw vegetable pinzimonio,
and wine.
You can add-on for a larger meal and include fruit juice,
cake, coffee and after-dinner digestives.

While the Hamburger is decidedly Un-Tuscan, it looks as if its pervasiveness is undoubtedly going global. As this recent article in the New York Times indicates, even the chefs of Paris have deigned to put “Le Burger Americain” on le menu.
“It has the taste of the forbidden, the illicit — the subversive, even,” said Hélène Samuel, a restaurant consultant here [Paris]. “Eating with your hands, it’s pure regression. Naturally, everyone wants it.”

Will Dario be fixing a roast pork sandwich, a la Tony Luke’s in Philadelphia next?

It is funny as people all over the world make beef patties, Italians have for ages too, although not served in a bun.
I have never been to Tony Luke’s, but Dario’s Tuscan porchetta is one of his signature dishes, again not a sandwich but eaten with bread!
The world is a small place!

NOT QUITE SURE WHY THERE IS SUCH A FUSS ABOUT THAT BURGER; THERE ARE GOOD AND BETTER BURGERS ALL OVER THE WORLD; AND YOU CAN BUY MEAT OF THIS CALIBER ALL OVER THE WORLD;—-BUT THERE MIGHT NOT MANY PEOPLE AROUND WHO CAN CONVINCE AN AMERICAN THAT IT IS ALL BETTER BECAUSE IT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CHIANTI. GREAT MARKETING CONCEPT

Dario’s burger is not an American burger.. just great meat and a good deal at 10 Euro.
Cost of eating out in Tuscany has doubled, so a better burger than fast food.
He is always looking for ways to use the meat besides steak… which is what most people come to a famous butcher for, but Dario buys whole animals and not just the rack for the steak!
Anonymous- have you already eaten here?

thanks for your answer, yes have eaten most of his products and they are great. I live in tuscany for the past 4 month and i have researched a lot of food. you can eat for 5 euro a fantastic meal in a trattoria or small ristorante so why 10 euro for a big mac?? its tuscany and not NY. Has nothing with artisan tuscan cooking to do.
thanks.

anonymous: let me know where you can eat for 5 euro for meal!!!
the cheapest I can get a meal is around 13 Euro, if you mean a plate of pasta that is different.
I have lived here for 25 years and eat out a lot, for research and guides. I know the farther south you go from Siena the cheaper it gets too!
I can get a lot of cheap food cheap, it is harder to get good food cheap. not just talking about Dario.
Would love to know some of your suggestions for eating cheap here.
